The GapPrologue
When people arrive at the Gap, the first thing they are told is that it isn't actually a gap. It's fourteen. Fourteen gaps in space between the old world and the thirteen sectors that form the new world.
People don't choose to go to the Gap, they are recruited. They are chosen for their skills and their abilities. There are the workers who go into the fields or trade or the mines; or the ones that work in the Medical Zone or the Science and Development Sector – chosen only for their brains.
To escape from a dying world is not viewed as a blessing by all. The first recruits were not told or asked, they were simply taken. All over the world, individuals were snatched from their homes and work places and drugged before going through transport.
Even fifty years later, people were unhappy with the way that this first voyage had happened and the men that had carried out the kidnappings were forever christened Snatchers.
When the news spread of the Gap, the public rejoiced. Ther Silver Prophecies
The screams echoed around the house and the vampire paced the hallway outside the room. His heart ached for the woman inside but he couldn't go in. The sight of so much blood would drive him mad. He couldn't risk that happening. After hours and hours, the screams stopped and he froze, waiting for news. There was the sound of movement from inside and a door further down the hall opened.
"You can come and see the child now, Sir." He hurried into the room and looked down at the baby in the cradle. His senses told him it was a girl and he smiled, kneeling down by her side.
"Hello little one, what is your name I wonder."
"Ariana, her name is Ariana." The voice from behind him startled him and he jumped up to see an exhausted looking woman. She stumbled and he lifted her to the bed.
"Rest now my Silver One, I will watch over you and Ariana." She nodded and smiled before closing her eyes. Her breathing slowed and the vampire kissed her forehead gently. When she was asleep, he went back to the The Last Lady. Air. Prologue.
The screams echoed through the castle, children and adults alike. The Lords and Ladies of the old kingdom, torn from their homes after the revolution. Jackson was torturing them, humiliating them before subjecting them to public execution. That evening was the biggest event of the week. The hanging of Lady Gabrielle and Garrett Dallington. The rulers of the Kingdom. They were to be executed along with their family, their six children and Garrett's brother, Jude. At that moment in time, the oldest girl was comforting her sisters. Lady Tatiana had long black hair, tied up as usual behind her head. She was plaiting her three year old sister, Arianna's, hair. In the next cell, her mother was sitting, staring blankly at the wall. Her father was opposite her, feeling as though he'd failed his family. In the cell nearest the door, Spencer was manacled to the wall after his escape attempt.
